CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office has announced a new electronic neighborhood watch program called CARE.
CARE Alerts are hosted by Captain Stuart Herndon in the Haberer Building Boardroom at 47 Courthouse Lane in Rustburg Thursday, February 20, at 6 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the meeting will be moved to Thursday, February 27.
Residents, including members of the local neighborhood watch groups, are welcome to attend the event to learn about the program and ask any questions at the event.
CARE stands for Community and Responder Engagement, which allows residents to register for public safety updates through texts or email to keep their neighborhood safe.
The CARE Alerts program urged residents in the community to provide updates on local crime trends, safety tips, and events. The updates will be turned into an instant notification that includes suspicious activities near their area, road closures, and other announcements.
“Safety is a shared responsibility, and our goal is to create a stronger connection between law enforcement and the community,” said Sheriff Whit Clark. “With this program, we are leveraging technology to keep our residents informed and engaged, helping us build a proactive approach to public safety.”
To enroll in the CARE Alert system, residents can visit the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office website at www.campbellcountyva.gov.
When you become registered, the system will give residents updates of:
- Real-time alerts: Notifications will be sent out about crime incidents or safety concerns nearby.
- Safety tips and education resources: Information provided to aid in residents to protect themselves and their property.
- Community events: Residents will be informed about local meetings, workshops, and community safety.
“We believe that informed citizens are the best crime prevention tool we have,” said Captain Herndon. “By working together and sharing vital information, we can create a safer environment for everyone in Campbell County.”
