ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Black Friday is the day of deals, and so many Americans are prepping to get out to the malls for their holiday shopping.
Lines started outside of Target in Valley View at 2:45 a.m. Friday morning, with so many people eyeing the Taylor Swift Vinyl and book.
WFXR spoke with a mother and daughter duo who have made it a tradition of getting together to shop on Black Friday. They started their morning over at Target, made their way to the mall where they planned on hitting most of the stores; hoping for a PlayStation 5, and their last stop was Walmart to end the day with some more great deals. They said this day is more than just shopping- and it’s a perfect way to spend quality time with one another and meet someone new.
“It’s kinda like a camaraderie with everybody else. When you’re outside waiting in the cold with a long line with everybody else waiting for the stores to open, it’s kinda just like a sense of togetherness ya know?” said Donna McCarty, who was shopping with her daughter Emma, “It’s kicking off the holidays with strangers, making new friends because you’re waiting, you’re talking about the items that you’re wanting to get. So I think it’s still important, online shopping is great, but you don’t get that interaction with those people face to face and get that spirit started.”
Valley Mall shares that same sentiment, their spokesperson says that some families have been coming to the mall on Black Friday for years.
Even though Black Friday has changed over the years with a lot of people flocking to online sales on Cyber Monday, the mall says that they still expect a lot of shoppers this year, they saw over 100 thousand last year and they are hoping to see more this weekend.
