LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – On Thursday, November 14, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lynchburg was awarded $10,000 and 100 laptops for local students by AT&T.
“This support from AT&T is greatly appreciated as many of our students in the County are in need of technology. As they continue their education journey through Giles County public schools and into the future, they will be equipped with the necessary tools to succeed. We thank AT&T and Human I-T for this opportunity,” said Lisa Mustain, Assistant Superintendent for Giles County Public Schools.
AT&T and Human I-T teamed up to help students from five different Giles County schools with access to the 100 laptops with the goal of closing the digital divide. The laptops come with IT support, as well as access to Microsoft Office.
“We recognize that digital technology is very important for the future of young people, access to the internet, and access to a computer are essential for life in this day in age.” – Desmond Mosby, Club Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lynchburg
The AT&T Connected Learning initiative addresses internet accessibility, affordability, and safe adoption and has committed $5 billion by 2030.
“AT&T is proud to collaborate with organizations like Human I-T and Giles County Public Schools to help young people have the additional resources and support they need for success in school, on the job, and in life”, said Garrett McGuire, regional director of AT&T External Affairs in Virginia.
AT&T has also donated $8,000 to the Giles County Christian Service Mission Hurricane Helene relief fund that was organized after the storm.
“Hurricane Helene had a devastating impact on so many lives here in Giles County and we are so thankful for AT&T’s support and dedication to our rebuild efforts,” said Leisa Palmer, Director of Giles County Christian Service Mission.
