ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Alleghany Highlands Public Schools have received an incentive grant to aid students in their future.
AHPS received an award for a Jobs For Virginia Graduates Incentive grant, also called the JVG grant, to aid Alleghany High School seniors working towards graduation and preparing for college or career opportunities.
The work-based learning coordinator for AHPS, Seth Bradley, will coordinate the program in which students will participate in career planning, decision-making, job-seeking, and basic academic activities.
The JVG is a non-profit organization with four main goals listed as the following:
- helping students graduate
- helping them seek post-secondary education
- helping them obtain a job
- getting them started on a solid career path.
The organization has helped thousands of students graduate and succeed after graduation since 1998.
“We look forward to installing the JVG program into Alleghany High School. JVG will allow us to combine some of our work-based learning efforts into the JVG program to give more students opportunities to gain knowledge and help them decide what they would like to do in the future,” Bradley said.
There are other programs at AHPS and JVG is not going to replace those programs, but it will aid students in planning for work and schooling after graduation. This can include students working in the JVG Program or other AHPS programs.
