36-year-old daycare worker arrested in Bedford



BEDFORD, Va. (WFXR) – The Bedford Police Department reports a woman has been arrested for allegedly breaking the arm of an infant at a daycare facility in November 2024.

The police said that on November 26, 2024, a complaint was received stating that a five-month-old infant suffered a broken arm at the local daycare facility.

Investigators with BPD, the Bedford County Department of Social Services and the Virginia Department of Education’s Office of Child Care Health and Safety immediately started an investigation into the allegations. The daycare was cooperative and provided evidence and resources, police said.

After detectives reviewed over 130 hours of video footage from the daycare and conducted several interviews, more than one victim was allegedly identified.

On Tuesday, January 7, three felony warrants were issued for the arrest of 36-year-old Kellie Nicole Daflucas of Bedford County for incidents that occurred between November 12, 2024, through November 26, 2024.

Kellie Nicole Daflucas has been charged with the following:

  • Code of Virginia 18.2-371.1 – While being a parent, guardian, or a person responsible of the care of a child under 18 years of age, commit a willful act or omission in the care of such child so gross and wanton as to show a reckless disregard for human life.

Many hours of surveillance video were viewed during this investigation and no other daycare employee was found to be negligent or inappropriate.
