One person is dead and another person is hospitalized following a crash on Interstate 95 near Lorton, Virginia, on Monday afternoon.

Virginia State Police said a pair of vehicles were traveling “at a high rate of speed” in the northbound lanes of I-95, when one of them, a BMW convertible, changed lanes and struck a third vehicle at mile-marker 163.

The BMW then hit a guardrail and jersey wall, causing the driver to be ejected from the vehicle and run over by the car that the BMW struck. The driver of the BMW, who police said was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene.

A passenger in the BMW, who police said was also not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected from the convertible. That passenger was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
